One Person's Trash is Another Person's Treasure

Thought I'd post a couple of thoughts on the Christmas (er....Holiday) Season and the shopping that goes along with it. Actually, I'm not one that enjoys shopping. The malls are too crowded, the roads are congested and prices are skyrocketing but.......

..........since we all seem to be avid consumers, and shopping is our game, you might want to take a look at the following video from www.mercola.com:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/need-to-see-before-you-start-holiday-shopping.aspx

It's a wonderful visual on what 'consumerism' does to the planet and how we've been set-up by the corporations to make those of us who live in the USA into nothing more than consuming piglets. We're trapped in a viscious cycle and can't stop it. But, there's one way to help the planet and your pocketbook.
So, after you watch the video, you might want to check out this website:

http://www.freecycle.org

Just type in your State or City, State and watch for a 'freecycle group' near you. I've been a user of freecycle and it is a wonderful way of cleaning out your overstuffed drawers, closets - or, if you're moving, giving away those items that could wind up in the dump. Likewise, if you're in need of something you can ask. Everything posted on freecycle is FREE.....and RECYCLED.

"The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4194 groups with 4188044 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Membership is free, and everything posted must be FREE, legal and appropriate for all ages."

Also, there's this:

http://www.repairclinic.org

"RepairClinic.com® - The preferred resource for appliance parts and free repair help. Ask our RepairGuru® your repair question. Let our PartDetective® show the part photo, pricing and availability. Shop online or use our toll-free number. No-hassle returns."

Well Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to anyone reading this blog.
