And besides getting myself some great books (as they have new and used books) to read over the long winter months, I've gone to some really fun author book signings.

Big chains bookstores like Barnes and Noble or Boarders are just toooooo biggggg ! ! ! I feel like an ant crawling around someone elses ant mound - lost. But there's a definite comfortable quality and feeling to the smaller independent stores. For one thing, I've gotten to know the people who work there and call them by their first names. They'll always ask how I'm doing and that makes it much more enjoyable ..... to go into a store where you are recognized and valued as a customer.

Since it's not too far off before baseball's spring training to begin (I know, I know, football is still going strong) and I'm a lover of the game, it was a nice surprise to see The Rabbit Hole having an upcoming author book signing with three baseball authors ! ! ! These guys are locals to the area and I've not read their books, but I'm gonna go out and rub elbows with some ball fans in a couple weeks. Then, I truly will believe Spring is on it's way.

So, if you're in the area - Fitchburg - come and talk baseball and enjoy the company of other sports fans. The authors are Rip Pallotta (One Day In Mudville), Jack Walsh (Baseball's Good Guys) and Rich Letarte (That One Glorious Season).

I'm giggling, I know that it's silly to be this excited. But I am. Praying for a no-snow-weekend on the 24th.

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-18768093267636262312008-10-09T09:27:00.003-04:002008-10-09T14:26:52.106-04:00Life and Liberty: A Coming Thing of the Past ??? ???Here are some articles you might want to review - just a heads up on what's ahead for the u.s.of corp. and it's citizens.

Thousands of Troops Are Deployed on U.S. Streets Ready to Carry
Out "Crowd Control"

by: Naomi Wolf

date: October 8, 2008

Members of Congress were told they could face martial law if they didn't pass the bailout bill. There are honorable human beings left in this in-human world we now live in. But will the government allow this to go on - I think not. Sadly, we are all in for a very rough winter and beyond. Our lives, our children's lives will NEVER be normal (you know, get a job, get an education, buy a home, have a family and live happily-ever-after) again.

By Mark Konkol
Sun-Times News Group
By suspending some foreclosure evictions, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart is throwing down a challenge to judges who order evictions and banks that want to clear out foreclosed homes and put them back on the market.

Dart said he's willing to face contempt-of-court charges for not following eviction orders, but Circuit Court Judge Dorothy Kirie Kinnaird said she won't take that step yet.

"It seems he has communicated more to (the media) than he has to the court," Kinnaird said. "I want to find out what issues they (the sheriff's department) are having."
Dart told reporters at a news conference Wednesday that about one-third of foreclosure evictions in the county affect renters who say they had no idea about the residence being in foreclosure.

"We will no longer be a party to something that's so unjust," a visibly angry Dart said. "We have to be sure that when we are doing this - and we are destroying some people's lives - we better be darned sure we're talking about the right people." .......................................

You can read the rest of the story here:
http://www.southtownstar.com/news/1211345,100908evict.article

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-28876712302685092532008-09-26T09:18:00.003-04:002008-09-26T09:58:20.657-04:00Anger and Fear Are Sweaping Over Us AllBoy, am I upset. No, upset is to neutral a word. Furious would be better (and I hope not too extreme.......). What's going on in politics, in the financial world, events taking place behind the scenes with our leaders - it's plain immoral, unethical, pathological.

Actually, words fail me. There's no way I can voice how absolutely unamerican the behavior of our leaders of OUR country are moving us towards a national breakdown (which at this point is inevitable). I also can't help but wonder what is going on with our congressional leaders - are they being blackmailed or something??? No wonder they're calling troops back from iraq and it isn't to protect us American's but to finally bring us to our knees.

Here is an article that should be read by everyone. This one is not about the financial crisis aflicting each and every one of us - but a different kind of take-over of our country (I know, you are asking how many kinds of take-over can there be). But this one has been in the planning stages for quite a long time. If you do read the article, you may find that what happened in Germany during World War II was only a trial run.........this one is the big kahuna.

http://www.sott.net/articles/show/165994-The-Dominionism-Apostasy-The-Despoiling-of-America-by-Christianity-turned-Evil

Or you can just google 'dominionism' and see what comes up and where one of our vp candidates fits into the whole creepy scenario.

Check out the Yurica Report for more articles.

http://www.yuricareport.com/

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-35440246380157236362008-05-15T17:20:00.003-04:002008-05-15T18:27:15.079-04:00Dissociation: It's Not What You Think (Part 1)Lately I've been fascinated with and reading alot about what is termed dissociation. It's that part of you that dis-connects with reality when you do such simple things as read a book, go to the movies, go shopping even experience trauma.

You know, like for me, when I go shopping (something I don't do too often) and you are in the store wandering around looking at all the stuff on the shelves, the sales items, new products. Suddenly, two hours have passed and you don't remember - cannot believe - that it's been two hours since you first entered the store. Seems more like 15 minutes, really. That's what will happen to me and is presented as just one example.

Interest in this dissociated state all began because I cannot remember my childhood. Not one part of it. Zip, gone, like it never happened TO ME. How can someone NOT remember their past. I was there. I was younger.

I grew up in a seemingly normal household with 4 sisters and one brother and a mom and dad. My siblings remember my childhood. But NOT ME. I actually thought that it was normal not to remember your past.......so I went through most of my life thinking that my memory just wasn't as good as everyone elses. Ha,ha, just a big joke! No memory! There was no reason to believe otherwise. Here I am, a grown woman, two children, divorced, and at 60 years old feeling quite happy with my life - until one day I pick up this book called "The Myth of Sanity" written by Martha Stout, Ph.D. I actually bought the book at a yard sale along with a few other books and brought them home, thinking I'd have some new reading material available when I was in the mood.

It was on page 29 of the book. As I was reading this part of the book, I actually thought it was me that she (Martha) was talking to and that it was me (The Mediator) answering her. From the book:

(Martha)

What does this feel like, not being able to

remember whole chapters of one's own

life? I have asked many people this

question, Julia among them. As usual,

her answer was obvious and starteling

at the same time.

(Julia)

"It doesn't feel like anything," she answered.

"I never really thought about it. I guess

I just assumed, sort of tacitly assumed, that

everyone's memory was like mine, that is to

say, kind of blank before the age of twenty

or so. I mean, you can't see into someone

else's mind, right?"

What a can of worm I opened up when I began reading this book. . . . . . . . .

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-38094349153931041702008-04-25T17:29:00.005-04:002008-04-28T11:06:31.282-04:00Food Shortages.....What's Happening ???In my last blog I was commenting about insurance and how there are those that have and those that just don't make the cut - useless eaters - is the term I've heard bantered about, apparently a description of those that are wanting.

Also, I've come across a couple of articles (and actually there are thousands of 'hits' on google about food shortages, riots, etc) with regard to something going on, whether manufactured information OR actual knowledge about what each and every human should be concerned about: the coming food shortages or food rations or food riots...........take your pick, my friend.

Somewhere in the last six weeks, the terms 'food shortages' have been in the news. First, just a small comment about rice shortages, riots in Haiti over food, wheat rust, limiting the amounts of bulk food you can purchase, etc.

Years ago, if any of you remember the TV show 'Johnny Carson', the late night talk show that I used to watch back in the 60's and 70's, (actually, Jay Lenno took Johnny's place) there was a comment made by Johnny one night that there was a toilet paper shortage. Sure 'nuf, during the next week, you couldn't find any toilet paper anywhere. People were buying up and hoarding toilet paper.

Turns out, it was just a joke. There was no shortage. But, people react to whatever they hear - especially if it is spoken on the (got one in every room) 'boob-tube'. But today, I'm really wondering what is the truth. Is there a coming shortage, is it a hype? Time will tell, but y'all might want to keep an eye on your supermarket shelves and make a mental note if you see that there are gaping holes where food/supplies should be stocked. It might be a good indication that something's a-foot. Time to put away some extra munchies for the fam.

There is a great article here with lots of links called "Connecting the Dots - Shortage of Food and Signs of War; the Future is Now".

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-62220639757003084482008-04-22T10:58:00.003-04:002008-04-22T11:28:28.027-04:00Life Expectancy In The US ... DiminishingHoly toledo Batman, this article stopped me in my tracks. And here's a quote from the article:

“It’s very troubling that there are parts of the wealthiest country in the world, with the highest health spending in the world, where health is getting worse,"

I always thought that any one of us would be able to access the best in health care that this country (USA) has to offer it's citizens. Not until recently, being one of those 'older individuals' who happened to lose her health care insurance because of a job loss, and now relies on state funded insurance, did I find out exactly what my options are.

Now, I am classified as one of those individuals who, because of income, because of the type of insurance I am enrolled in, has very few options available to me when it comes to getting 'the best health care available'. Guess I shouldn't be so surprised, with all that's going on in the world and at home. But I was surprised. Just when you need something the most, that's when the PTB seem to make it disappear. It's just beyond your grasp. What a game.

What's next.......food??
To read more go here.

And, keep yourselves healthy.

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-30225323679626105482008-04-07T18:51:00.004-04:002008-10-09T13:29:49.305-04:00DRUG for HEALTH: We live in a Backwards WorldYes, I have to admit it, I'm all for living a life free of drugs - both recreational and medicinal. My grandmother, a French Canadian woman, lived to the wonderful age of 89 and never saw the inside of a hospital until she suffered a stroke and died three days later 'in hospital' was never on any medication(s) her whole life.

It still brings tears to my eyes, remember the morning that my son, who was three years old at the time, who also was born with Down's Syndrome .... and had snuck away from me to go downstairs to see Meme (he loved his great-grandmother and we, fortunately, lived with her. My family lived upstairs and she, alone, downstairs in her two family home that her father and husband built). I went downstairs looking for Josh only to find him sitting holding Meme's hand and she, calling out his name over-and-over - Joshua, Joshua.........

She didn't know me, but the ambulance was quick and my Aunt was even quicker. Meme was not in any pain, her heart just slowed down and finally stopped, leaving her - or rather she, leaving us, quietly one day. She died the exact moment I had to put down my favorite dog (and her's also), but that's another story for another day.

At her funeral I cried for my dog Buddy. I knew my grandmother had live the life she was dealt with much wisdom, grace, pride and love of family. She taught me so much of how I live my life today and how I deal with illness, disease and middle age. She was more of a mother to me than my actual mom. I miss her even today and it's been almost 20 years that she's been gone. But, to the point of my writing today:

Drug Companies - can you trust them? Do you want to bet your life, your health, your mind, your future on what they tell you is their truth?

Fosamax Linked to Serious Abnormal Bone Fractures
by Byron J. Richards
March 20, 2008

The New England Journal of Medicine published a physician group report of 15 women taking Fosamax who experienced "atypical low-energy fractures," which means their bones broke doing almost nothing – a serious kind of injury typically seen in very elderly individuals in declining health. The fact that the NEJM is reporting this is a major wake up call to anyone who hasn't figured out that Fosamax is dangerous to your health.

You can read the entire article here:
http://www.naturalnews.com/z022895.html

And the reason I include this article is because if you are taking Fosamax (like the elderly lady I am caring for) and you have any type of dental work done, watch out ........ your jaw bone just might become a dead, decaying piece of bone matter, like poor Sophie (name change) has had happen to her. Unfortunately, at the age of 95, there's not much they can do for her. She's in almost constant "jaw" pain and has been told by the Oral Surgeon, only after she had a tooth extracted, that "Oops, you should have told us you were taking Fosamax."

Then I see this article:

Ketek: One Drug, Many Tragedies
by Alex Jetter
Readers Digest, 3/17/08

The well-dressed woman in the waiting room was yellow, recalls John Hanson, MD -- a clear sign of jaundice. That was puzzling: One month earlier, in March 2005, Vivienne Wardley (not her real name), 51, had been in excellent shape except for a cold. A health-conscious woman, Wardley avoided prescription drugs and drank moderately. But tests showed that she needed an emergency liver transplant. And when Dr. Hanson, a gastroenterologist in Charlotte, North Carolina, examined her liver, he was startled. It was only a third of its normal size and showed massive tissue death.

What could have attacked Wardley's liver so quickly? The doctor remembered another patient his partner had treated in February. Usually healthy, Ramiro Pulquero, 26, walked into the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte jaundiced, feverish and vomiting blood. He died three days later. The autopsy showed that his liver, like Wardley's, had suffered tissue death.

The rest can be read here:
http://www.sott.net/articles/show/152168-Ketek-One-Drug-Many-Tragedies

Ketek is a new antibiotic. Don't know anything more than what I've read in the above Readers Digest article. I don't want to say much of anything else other than maybe you should be careful WHO tells you that this DRUG or that DRUG will be good for you. It seems to me that we live in a backwards universe. Reverse the meaning and there's the truth of the matter.

Well, just some ramblings of a middle-aged woman. Be careful. I'm not a skiier, but I do like to snowshoe. With Spring just around the corner, I can't wait to get back outside and start walking again. Hiking on the weekends is such great fun and wonderful exercise. And since I'm an apartment dweller, the outdoors is even more precious to me. When I had my own home and had to tend to two acres of land, I never gave being outdoors as much thought as I do now.

So I thought it appropriate to include this article on vitamin D and sunshine. But ya gotta remember to treat the sun with r-e-s-p-e-c-t. That means small doses to build up your tolerance. Personally, I do not wear sunscreen for most of my outdoor treks and walks. Although if I were to go to the ocean for the day, of course, I would put on some protection and wear a hat (probably with a wide brim), as there is no hiding from the strong rays of the sun bouncing off the water and sand. Even on a cloudy day you can get a burn at the ocean. So hurray for Spring.......this article was found at:

http://www.naturalnews.com/z022841.html

Rise and Shine: More Sunlight is Good for Your Health
by Tom Mosakowski (see all articles by this author)

A study by researchers at the Institute for Cancer Research in Oslo, Norway has given further credence to the claim that the benefits of modest sun exposure outweigh the risk of skin cancer for most people. Johan Moan, the researcher who led the study said, "Modest sun exposure gives enormous vitamin D benefits.

"He estimated that doubling the amount of sun exposure for residents of Norway would double the number of deaths due to skin cancer to 300. However, the great benefit to this would be a decrease of 3,000 people who die from other cancers [1].

The human skin synthesizes vitamin D when exposed to the ultraviolet type B (UVB) radiation in sunlight. Solar radiation is the main source of vitamin D for most people. Modest sun exposure causes a significant amount of vitamin D to accumulate in the body and protect from some internal cancers and other illnesses such as diabetes and rickets. Vitamin D promotes bone mineralization and calcium absorption thus protecting against osteomalacia and osteoporosis. The vitamin also helps the body's immune system function properly [2]. When deficient, the human body is at great risk of acquiring these conditions and deficiency is linked to heart attacks and mental depression. Most people could experience the benefits by increasing their sun exposure, but not too much as to cause any burning.

Vitamin D deficiency has been measured to be as high as 21 to 58 percent in adolescents and adults in the United States [3].

Several factors reduce individuals' exposure to sunlight and UVB light rays: the amount of time spent in the sun is the most obvious. Also, more polar latitudes, the time of day such as dusk compared to noon, high cloud cover, smog, and sunscreen use lower the amount of UVB radiation that reaches people.

Geographic latitude plays a significant role. Generally, the farther an individual is from the equator, the more difficult it is to synthesize enough vitamin D. For example, in Boston, MA, from November through February, the average amount of sunlight is inadequate for an individual to synthesize enough vitamin D [4]. Additionally, the researchers at the Institute for Cancer Research in Oslo determined that, given the same amount of sunlight, inhabitants of Australia just below the equator produced 3.4 more times the vitamin D than people in Britain and 4.8 times that of Scandinavians [1].

It's essential to learn the optimal amount of sun exposure that is healthy for you without causing sunburn. Moan recommended that a person's daily sun exposure should be about half the time that it would take to burn. Lighter skinned people are more sensitive to sunburn and skin damage, but they are more proficient at creating vitamin D with less sun exposure than a darker skinned person (Please see [5] below for a related, generally accepted theory for skin color variance). Light skinned peoples in Southern United States can synthesize enough vitamin D by exposing their face and arms to the sun without sunscreen for about 15 minutes a few times a week. Dark skinned people need about 5 to 10 times more exposure [2].

A consensus has not been made for how much vitamin D is a healthy level for most people, but it's generally agreed that for people up to the age of 50, 200 IUs (international unit) is the Adequate Intake (AI). For 51 to 70 year olds, 400 IUs is the AI and for individuals over 70, 600 IUs is recommended. The ability to synthesize vitamin D decreases with age. However, recent studies have shown amounts of vitamin D of 2,000 IUs and higher to be more effective and still safe [6]. If a person works outside under the summer sun for hours in a tank-top and shorts, his skin will have made thousands of IUs. Of course, a baseline tan to prevent burning would be a good idea. Normal body levels of vitamin D can't reach the level that a large vitamin D pill would produce. The body self-regulates; reducing vitamin D synthesis when levels are getting high from sun exposure.

Is there a difference between taking say, 1,000 IUs in pill form and synthesizing it via UVB radiation? Is putting a 1,000 IU pill in your body versus forming it all over your skin comparable to drinking 8 glass of water at once versus spreading it throughout the day? This, I am unsure of.

Within UVB light are a range of wavelengths. Some are more optimal for vitamin D synthesis than others. A person at sea level will receive these wavelengths when the sun is 45 degrees above the horizon or the UV index for the day is above 3. When the sun is at or above this elevation in the sky, sufficient amounts of vitamin D can be made by the skin in about 15 minutes a few times a week. The area of the planet within the tropics provides this solar elevation daily, but it occurs daily only in the spring and summer seasons of temperate regions, and nearly never in the arctic circles [7]. Seasonal supplementation seems to be appropriate.

Sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 8 prevents more than 95% of vitamin D production [11]. So when you lather up with this sunscreen, it will take 20 times longer than usual to make enough vitamin D. This effect was observed during a campaign in Australia to increase sunscreen use to prevent skin cancer. The result was an increase in Australians with vitamin D deficiency [8].

You can read the rest of the article here

~ The Mediator
The Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-86122964208123432932008-03-14T07:05:00.004-04:002008-03-14T07:19:59.817-04:00Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Exercising on the RebounderWell, I came across this article about chronic fatigue and exercise. Rebounding, or jumping on a mini-trampoline, seems like it might be helpful to those suffering from CFS.

You can read the article here:
http://www.fatigueanswers.com/mini-exercise-trampoline.html

Just thought this was something that searchers should be aware of. I know that when you are 'tired' the last thing on your mind is exercise. The motivation is not there. But this simple, gentle bouncing might be something to help you slowly build up a tolerance and a good place to start. They even make rebounders with a bar attachment that you can hold onto. All you need is 2 minutes ! Just give it two minutes first thing in the morning - the best time to clear your lymph system. At least, that's what I've read.

Remember, this is not medical advice. And, we all have stress to deal with each and every day. It just depends on how much stress is involved and how well you can cope. From the commute to work, worry about family, job, health, the economy, it's pretty much an in-your-face daily struggle not to have a nuclear meltdown emotionally.

I've had my share of stresses thoughout the last 30 years.......what with having a child born with a disability, an alcoholic husband, divorce, suffering from panic attacks, even having my car repossessed while I was at work and all my co-workers knew.......there were times when I thought that checking-out would be the best and only option for getting some peace of mind.

I was a worrier. My mom worried and I thought I'd inherited the familial gene and my fate was sealed. Once, when I was a teenager, I went to an amusement park, had my palm read. The woman took one look at the lines on my hand and said to me "My dear, you worry so much, you worry about worrying." She hit the nail on the head. But what was I to do. Then I devised a plan (too bad it took me soooo many years to come up with this workable idea). The Plan: I allowed myself 24 hours to worry/stress over any given situation or problem that popped into my life. It worked ! ! !

Yes. I would cry, scream, agonize, think about the most horrific end-of-the-world scenarios and literally get it all out of my emotional system. Phew; sometimes it was really exausting. But it worked.

The reason I'm writing about stress and mental health is that I read this article where an independent new site was being sued for telling the truth.

It seems that ever since 911 people have been more and more fearful of speaking what is it that they really think or feel about what is going on in our world, our country. And that bothers me. Not only because I can see fear in other people, but I can also sense fear in myself about speaking up.

Anyway, it is this article that's got me all worked up. So I had to implement my "Plan" and I guess part of the plan is my writing about it. This is an article about truth, freedom of speech, and some questionable individuals. As a mom, I would want my family to be aware of what's out there and that's why this rant. Maybe you'll read the article.

It's time we stop being afraid.

Here's the link to the blog

or......go read about it here

~ The Mediator

The Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-33772152433946056482008-03-04T14:31:00.004-05:002008-03-04T14:49:07.042-05:00Ya Gotta Have "Hope"Do any of you like to re-read books that you've enjoyed in past. But let me say in advance that today's particular collection of items will lead us to a certain point of hope which I wish to elucidate at the end.

It is 7.17 am, Eastern Standard Time, on the thirtieth of June [some year in the not-too-distant future]. Suddenly the power fails.

The basement centre of the Defense Communication Operations Unit adjoining the White House is plunged into darkness, and only the distant rumble of early morning traffic reminds the duty officer that another day has already begun. There have been power failures before, however, and there is no hint of impending crisis

Almost immediately, an automatic switch brings in the emergency supply. But now the duty officer observes that something is wrong. Telephone links to the outside world have gone. These include the open links, via commercial cables, to NORAD's bunker a thousand feet under Cheyenne Peak in Colorado, and to the Offutt command post near Omaha

Within seconds it is ascertained that neither the President nor Vice-President, both of whom are out of town, can be contacted: radio communications are blacked out, on all frequencies. Further, because of the telephone failure, none of the Presidential stand-ins scattered around town and country can be expected to call in to give their exact locations, as they would normally if there were a recognized national emergency. However, the Secretary of Defense, third in the chain of command, is at breakfast somewhere in the White House

It has taken 45 seconds to confirm the general breakdown of communications; it takes another 45 seconds to locate the Secretary of Defense and inform him of the problem; and it is another 90 seconds before the Secretary finds himself in the cramped underground Situation Room along with his advisors. He is aware that the travel time of a missile from a hostile submarine off the Atlantic coast to Washington is just over fifteen minutes; three of these minutes have gone
Emergency procedures for transferring authority are now in hand and the Secretary of Defense becomes in effect the new President. The 'gold codes', which would enable him to initiate a nuclear response, are placed before him. The black SIOP books with their theoretical scenarios are produced. The 'Mystic' and 'Nationwide' communication systems are successfully activated utilizing deeply buried, protected cables. He now has control of the National Command Authority, the channel of communication for execution of a nuclear strike; and another two minutes have gone

The underground cables to Cheyenne, Offutt and other SAC bases are now open with secure links to the radar lines covering the northern approaches. None of them - Dew Line, the 55th Parallel or Pine Tree - is functioning properly, however; their screens are strongly upset with many spurious signals: there seem to be huge scattering modes in the ionosphere.

Satellite communication with military forces abroad is impaired. No information is coming in from the big synchronous DSP satellites over South America, the central Pacific or the Indian Ocean; nothing is arriving from the relay stations near Aurora in Colorado or Pine Gap in Australia. And the 'hot line' is dead. On the other hand in the minutes before the confusion they had reported no anomalous infrared emissions and hence no evidence of heat from the exhausts of rising missiles. At the moment all that can be said is that there is a very unusual atmospheric disturbance, that telephone lines are dead and that there are widespread power failures. The disturbed atmosphere might just be some strange effect due to sunspots or the like, but the telephone and power failures are ominous. On such a scale, the only plausible explanation is an electromagnetic pulse caused by nuclear fireballs

Eight minutes into the emergency - if it is an emergency - the Secretary issues a number of precautionary orders. His deputy is ordered upstairs to await the arrival of a helicopter from Quantico Marine Corps base about 30 miles away. This will transport the deputy to the waiting 'Nightwatch', a Boeing 747 which functions as an airborne command post. Another helicopter is dispatched to retrieve the President. A 'flash alert' is sent to Hawaii, to get a second command post aloft, but the message goes unacknowledged. SAC missile silos and bomber bases are put on full alert

Nine minutes on, ............... gotta go here to read the rest. The Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-74014593224182091822008-03-01T21:10:00.002-05:002008-03-01T22:39:30.620-05:00Comets, Meteors, Fireballs......Does Humanity Have A Chance???A few years ago I witnessed a ginormous meteor fly overhead (um, I am assuming, since I am not a scientist, that it was a meteor) while driving home one winter's night. The Sun sparkled on the gentle swells and wakes, lending a luminous glow to the poppies and tulips nodding in the parks along the water's edge. All was in order.

But suddenly, the sky brightened as if with a second, more brilliant Sun. A second set of shadows appeared; at first long and faint, they shortened and sharpened rapidly. A strange hissing, humming sound seemed to come from everywhere at once. Thousands craned their necks and looked upwards, searching the sky for the new Sun. Above them a tremendous white fireball blossomed, like the unfolding of a vast paper flower, but now blindingly bright. For several seconds the fierce fireball dominated the sky, shaming the Sun. The sky burned white-hot, then slowly faded through yellow and orange to a glowering copper-red. The awful hissing ceased. The onlookers, blinded by the flash, burned by its searing heat, covered their eyes and cringed in terror. Occupants of offices and apartments rushed to their windows, searching the sky for the source of the brilliant flare that had lit their rooms. A great blanket of turbulent, coppery cloud filled half the sky overhead. For a dozen heartbeats the city was awestruck, numbed and silent.

Then, without warning, a tremendous blast smote the city, knocking pedestrians to the ground. Shuttered doors and windows blew out; fences, walls, and roofs groaned and cracked. A shock wave raced across the city and its waterways, knocking sailboats flat in the water.......

continue here

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-44216603460830667462008-02-26T11:56:00.006-05:002008-04-21T10:12:54.996-04:00Rebounding ... ever tried itYesterday I came across this article on "rebounding", it's a trampoline you use indoors to strengthen the cells of your body - not to make you physically strong - but to keep you healthy and your immune system working at top notch speed. Most people call rebounders 'mini-trampolines'. And, I've been rebounding for years. My children, when they were young, thought that it was the best thing since jumping on your bed.

Rebounding for health was what got me started and this was about 26 years back. After my son was born 23 years ago, (he was born with Down's Syndrome and as a result had a depressed immune system, low muscle tone - flabby arms, legs, neck) I brought him home from the hospital and would hold him in my arms and jump and sing to him on a daily basis. I did this hoping to help him grow strong and healthy. He still jumps today, although today I have to remind him that it's part of his exercise routine.

Anyway, the reason for writing all the above is that I saw this great article that I thought I'd include below. It's how rebounding for only two (yes 2) minutes a day can clean your lymph system. I had always been under the impression that I needed to jump 15-20 minutes for needed health benefits. But read the article.........two minutes, several times a day boosts your immune system and increase production of your white blood cells.

You can also find more great articles on health here.

The article was taken from:
http://www.naturalnews.com/z022716.html

* * * * * * * *

Whole Body Detox (Part 1): Lymphatic Cleansing With Rebound Exercise
by Mary Laredo (see all articles by this author)

With each passing decade since the end of World War II our planet has become silently, yet increasingly, toxic as pollutants from pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, industrial chemicals and other residual offenders choke the land, water and air that sustain us. As our planet becomes dangerously congested with debris so do our bodies, as evidenced by the alarming rate of deaths due to preventable illness and disease. We are neither helpless nor hopeless in this dire state, and just as we can strive to minimize our imprint on the planet, we can also take measures to reduce, eliminate and cleanse toxins from the blood, tissues and organs of our bodies. One of several effective methods of detoxification is through lymphatic cleansing.

Among the various functions of the lymphatic system is its ability to carry waste away from the cells and bloodstream to the body's organs of elimination. The system is comprised of veins and capillaries, with one-way valves, that contain a clear fluid called lymph. This fluid also surrounds cells throughout the body and collects cellular debris before draining it into the lymphatic system. Lymph carries the waste on a one-way path toward the heart and passes through many filters (lymph nodes) where special white blood cells attack and eliminate foreign molecules.

Once the lymph fluid approaches the heart it is returned to circulation and makes its way for further cleansing of toxins by the liver and kidneys. The lymphatic vessels are not connected to the blood circulatory system, and unlike blood which is pumped by the heart, lymph fluid relies on bodily movement and exercise to drive it through the lymphatic system. Forceful flushing of the system cleanses lymph nodes, contributes to healthy, clear lymph fluid, and boosts the immune system. Stagnant, slow-moving and thick lymph fluid is due to a lethargic, toxic body and weakened immune system.

When the lymph fluid remains sluggish the lymph nodes become clogged and lose their filtering ability. Without routine flushing of the lymph, debris becomes trapped in the body, creating a toxic overload and contributing to the onset of disease.

Exacerbating the problem caused by lack of exercise is the constant onslaught of toxins from processed, denatured food and exposure to environmental pollutants. Regular exercise will help to offset these offenders.

Rebounding on a mini trampoline is perhaps the most efficient and forceful means of flushing the lymph while stimulating the immune system and defending against cancer and other ailments. During rebound exercise the forces of the upward and downward bounces – acceleration and deceleration – are vertically aligned on the same plane with gravity. It was proven by Albert Einstein in 1911 that the aligned forces of acceleration, deceleration and gravity result in an increased gravitational load (1). What this means for the body is that during rebound exercise cells adjust to the increased load by becoming stronger. Rebounding strengthens virtually every cell of the body at the same time and is equivalent to resistance training for the cells.

It takes only two minutes of rebounding to flush the entire lymphatic system, while cleansing and strengthening cells and lymph nodes. A further benefit to the body is that during this brief time span the white blood cells of the immune system triple in number and remain elevated for an hour. These specialized cells play a major role in the body's defense against illness and disease. For one full hour their activity is increased as they perform their tasks of destroying and eliminating cancer cells and other toxins, expending themselves in the process. An hour after rebounding for two minutes the white blood cell count returns to normal (1, 2, 3).

At this point another two-minute rebound session would increase the demand for white blood cells as the process of cleansing, strengthening, and the flushing away of spent cells and other cancerous debris is repeated. A therapeutic strategy to rebuild health would be to rebound for two minutes every waking hour, or as many times a day as possible. Two minutes of gentle bouncing throughout the day is more effective for healing than one long session. Repeated short sessions sustain an active immune system, oxygenate and strengthen cells, and continuously cleanse the lymph. Therapeutic rebounding has been shown to reduce cancerous tumors and improve or heal a host of other ailments (3).

Those who are too weak to exercise or have difficulty standing can use a stabilizer bar which is available with most quality rebounders, such as the Needak model. This enables the weak individual to feel secure while bouncing gently. It's important to begin slowly, and gradually increase to two minutes.

Rebounding can be performed by healthy individuals for health maintenance and disease prevention. One or more long sessions of aerobic rebounding will help stimulate the immune system, improve digestion, control weight, tone and strengthen the body, and build endurance – especially when done with hand-held weights.

When beginning a program of regular rebounding it's best to gradually increase time and intensity as the body – including bones and internal organs – adjusts to the increased gravitational load and becomes stronger.

A healthy existence can only be sustained when we recognize the correlation between our toxic planet and our polluted bodies and become conscious stewards of both. One means toward this end is through daily rebounding combined with an alkaline diet to detoxify the body and profoundly contribute to optimum healing.

Future reports will cover the effectiveness and physiology of fasting, enemas and infrared sauna use for therapeutic detoxification.

References:1. There has been so many family issues over the last couple of months that it's all I can do to turn on the computer and check out my favorite sites. But, this article about honey and cinnamon has really peaked my 'health' curiosity. The reason for it is as follows:

My son, during the winter months, has always produced these big, ugly pimples. This only happens November through March and nothing but time has made them go away - until I happened upon a hand cream that I purchased over the holidays. It's made from honey. All natural ingredients (only a few). Anyway, one night I decided to apply some of this honey hand cream to his face (where another pimple was forming) and the next morning it was all but gone. A little more honey hand cream and two days later there was no sign of a big 'ole pimple.

We did this over and over this winter, whenever a pimple (and no, it's not just a tiny zit, but a boil type zit) would begin to form, I'd apply the honey cream and voila~~~gonezo. So, when I read this article, I just had to dig a bit and look further into the idea of honey (and cinnamon) being an incredible natural healer......and maybe you will look deeper into this too.

Read on and also check out some other health and wellness articles
here.

cinamon and honey the miracle cure
posted 2/9/2008 9:13:46 AM

read below OR can be read here...just scroll down half way on the page to find it:

http://mysite.verizon.net/mdmasters/healthtips.htm

or read the paper here:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/48137/honey-cinnamon-multiple-cures

Facts on honey and cinnamon: It is found that a mixture of honey and cinnamon cures most diseases.

Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a "Ram Ban" (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, in its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning, and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon honey and half teaspoon cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

TOOTHACHE:
Make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied three times a day until the tooth stops aching.

CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of cinnamon powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS:
According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ingredient which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increases and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.

FATIGUE:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than! than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the bo dy within a week.

BAD BREATH:
People of South America, first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS:
Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restore hearing. The Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-12395085906141356322007-12-11T22:08:00.001-05:002007-12-11T22:25:20.065-05:00One Person's Trash is Another Person's TreasureThought I'd post a couple of thoughts on the Christmas (er....Holiday) Season and the shopping that goes along with it. The hype usually includes the information that there will not be enough flu shots to go around and to call your doctor asap to get your flu shot.

This year, I've hardly heard anything about the flu season.......this year it's all about your finances and the christmas and sales season. Of course, both of those can make you sick with worry: you get to worry about possibly getting the flu or worry about your income/assets disappearing with the falling dollar rising oil prices and/or you can worry even more about your job stability.

Also, you can go here:
http://www.sott.net/articles/show/144251-Disturbing-FDA-staff-urge-psych-warnings-for-two-flu-drugs
for other articles about health and fear.

So below is the article about the flu. Have a wonderflu season.

Disturbing! FDA staff urge psych warnings for two flu drugs
Kim Dixon
Reuters
Sat, 24 Nov 2007

[note: highlights and emphasis mine]

U.S. Food and Drug Administration staffers are recommending new warnings about psychiatric events observed in some patients taking Roche Holding AG's Tamiflu and GlaxoSmithKline Plc's Relenza, according to documents released on Friday.

An FDA advisory panel will review the recommendations for the anti-viral influenza drugs at a meeting next week.

The FDA held a similar meeting two years ago in response to reports of a dozen deaths of children in Japan who had been taking Tamiflu.

Experts then found no evidence of a direct connection between the drug and the deaths, although the FDA did ultimately update Tamiflu's label to add a caution urging close monitoring of patients for abnormal behavior such as delirium or self-injury.

In documents prepared for the meeting next week and posted on the FDA's Web site, agency staff recommended that Tamiflu's label be strengthened to note: "In some cases, these behaviors resulted in serious injuries, including death, in adult and pediatric patients."
The FDA staff also reviewed Relenza, a drug in the same class as Tamiflu, recommending its label be changed to note "reports of hallucinations, delirium and abnormal behavior" observed in some patients taking the drug.

The current Relenza label has no label warning related to psychiatric events.

The FDA staff said the evidence is "conflicting" as to whether the events are medication-related, a manifestation of disease or a combination of the two.

Tamiflu has been more widely used in Japan than in the United States, and there is some evidence that the Japanese are more vigilant about reporting side effects, the FDA has said.
Tamiflu, known generically as oseltamivir, is a pill, while Relenza, generically zanamivir, is inhaled.

A Roche spokesman said no causal relationship between Tamiflu and these psychiatric events has been proven.

"Roche has extensively investigated the issue and is conducting ongoing clinical and nonclinical studies. Roche takes all adverse events reports very seriously," spokesman Terence Hurley said in a statement.

About 48 million people have taken Tamiflu worldwide, including 21 million children, since approval in 1999, he said.

A Glaxo spokeswoman said a review of premarketing and post-approval trial data showed no worrying safety signals on patients taking Relenza. The drug is not a major revenue-generator for UK-based Glaxo.

FDA staff based its recommendations on a review of nearly 600 cases of neuropsychiatric events reported by patients on Tamiflu and 115 cases of such events by patients taking Relenza.
The FDA staff will present the advice to the advisory panel of experts meeting on Tuesday, November 27. The agency typically takes the advice of these panels but is not bound by them.
JAPAN PROBE

Japan in March warned against prescribing Tamiflu to those ages 10 to 19 as more than 100 people, mostly young, showed signs of abnormal behavior after taking the drug.

Earlier this year, Japan broadened its probe of Tamiflu to look at flu drugs Relenza and amantadine, after reports of abnormal behavior among young patients.

FDA staff reviewed recent side effect reports on amantadine and rimantadine, another flu drug in amantadine's class, but recommended no label changes. Amantadine already has a strong warning about suicide attempts and an increase in seizures seen in patients on the drug, while rimantadine notes seizure-like activity and hallucinations.

Tamiflu was having lackluster sales as a drug to prevent and treat seasonal flu but got a second life when it was the first drug to show real efficacy in treating and preventing bird flu.

The FDA staff documents for the advisory meeting were posted at:

http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/ac/07/briefing/2007-4325b-00-in dex-27and28.html.
(Additional reporting by Ben Hirschler in London)
(Reporting by Kim Dixon; Editing by Gerald E. Living until I'm 99 years old ! I have a ways to go before the end. Unfortunately, living where I do, I see first hand the result of living into old age - and it's not pretty. There are those exceptions, of course. But an argument I had with a friend who lives in Florida went like this: She said "the sunshine all year long keeps you healthier and living longer and better........". Another friend, who lives in New England said this: "the cold whether keeps and preserves you, so you live longer.....".

So, which is it?? Sunshine vs. cold??

Doesn't matter to me because I attempt to get as much vitamin d from the sun as I can all year long and then supplement with caster (yuck!) oil. Soooooo I'm thinking that as long as I am able to live an independent and purposeful life, it doesn't matter to me how long I live - just as long as I am living and doing and not plunked in front of my tv set 24/7.

So for the fun of it, check out your virtual age!

As an aside, if you are struggling to get a holiday gift for someone who loves to read, someone who loves to learn, then this is a (my opinion only) great book to give. It's called POLITICAL PONEROLOGY by Andrew Lobaczewski. Only 235 pages, but packed with punch.

I'm just finishing the book for the second time. It's about the nature of evil in politics and life. But more than that, it's a fascinating historical account of what happens when psychopaths become leaders (of a country, of a town, of a workplace, of relationships). . . . . .and what you need to know to survive these people who are in control of your life (they are everywhere on some level).

Good book, great read, a survival book for someone you love (and don't forget yourself).

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-62764852394269900152007-11-03T11:49:00.000-04:002007-11-03T11:53:53.578-04:00Gotta Laugh a LittleI was laughing out loud today as I watched the following spoof on cable news:

http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/181.html

Then there's this:

http://www.theoinio.com/content/video/in_the_know_is_the_government?utm_source=videomrss_68210

Well, hoping this only makes people giggle. Understanding this experiment sheds a brilliant light on the dark world of our inner motivations.

The ground-breaking social psychological experiment of Festinger and Carlsmith (1959) provides a central insight into the stories we tell ourselves about why we think and behave the way we do. The experiment is filled with ingenious deception so the best way to understand it is to imagine you are taking part. So sit back, relax and travel back. The time is 1959 and you are an undergraduate student at Stanford University...

As part of your course you agree to take part in an experiment on 'measures of performance'.

You are told the experiment will take two hours. As you are required to act as an experimental subject for a certain number of hours in a year - this will be two more of them out of the way.

Little do you know, the experiment will actually become a classic in social psychology. And what will seem to you like accidents by the experimenters are all part of a carefully controlled deception. For now though, you are innocent.

The set-up

Once in the lab you are told the experiment is about how your expectations affect the actual experience of a task. Apparently there are two groups and in the other group they have been given a particular expectation about the study. To instil the expectation subtly, the participants in the other groups are informally briefed by a student who has apparently just completed the task. In your group, though, you'll do the task with no expectations.

Perhaps you wonder why you're being told all this, but nevertheless it makes it seem a bit more exciting now that you know some of the mechanics behind the experiment.

So you settle down to the first task you are given, and quickly realise it is extremely boring. You are asked to move some spools around in a box for half an hour, then for the next half an hour you move pegs around a board. Frankly, watching paint dry would have been preferable.

At the end of the tasks the experimenter thanks you for taking part, then tells you that many other people find the task pretty interesting. This is a little confusing - the task was very boring. Whatever. You let it pass.

...............and you can read the rest of the article here:
http://www.sott.net/articles/show/142646-How-and-Why-We-Lie-to-Ourselves-Cognitive-Dissonance

or go here:
http://members.show.ca/positivedisintegration/gifted.htm
for more information.

~ The MediatorThe Mediatorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04687390942761209147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10197056.post-10172660295755619582007-10-27T12:34:00.000-04:002007-10-30T12:38:18.299-04:00SHORTAGES: Take Your Pick - Food, Water, MoneyYa know, it feels like we're living in a dream world at the moment.

Everything seems to be normal. Food available, water everywhere, working still and paying the bills. At the same time, there is a growing anxiety deep in my solar plexus.
